Led by guitarist Marcos E. Mora, Marcos & Sabor is an extraordinarily talented group from South Omaha that plays a variety of music and styles, including classic rock, cumbia, Latin jazz, bachata, ballads, blues, American oldies and much more.
Mora, a third generation Mexican American, was born in Los Angeles, Calif. and was raised in South Omaha. His family has contributed to the Omaha music scene for more than 80 years. His grandfather Vidal Barrientos and his brothers, Juan and Panfilo, migrated to the U.S. from Aguascalientes, Mexico in the 1920s, and for the next 50 years, were well-known musicians in the South Omaha Mexican community.
Marcos & Sabor has previously headlined Jazz on the Green in 2009, and also performed at Omaha’s Red Sky Music Festival in its inaugural year in 2011. Additionally, the group was nominated in 2007 by the Omaha Entertainment Awards in the Live Category for Best Ethnic Group.
Consisting of Mora (lead guitar, bass, mandolin), Milena Libertad (lead vocals), Alma ‘Coco’ Guierrez (vocals, keyboards), Gabriela Robles (percussion), Joe ‘Squeezbox’ Gonzalez (bass, accordion, keyboard, vocals) and Oscar Gonzalez (drums), Marcos & Sabor performs familiar songs such as “Oye Como Va,” “La Bamba” and “Guantanamera,” as well as original music that creates a sound full of Latin rhythms and a modern taste of pop influence.
All concerts for Omaha Performing Arts Presents Jazz on the Green at Midtown Crossing are free to the public. No reservations or tickets are needed. The venue opens at 5:00 p.m. and performances start at 7:00 p.m.
